Sajid Javid has said that there are "no guarantees" that further coronavirus restrictions won't be imposed before Christmas.

He told the Andrew Marr show on Sunday morning that it was "time to be more cautious".

When asked whether he could rule out further Covid-19 restrictions before Christmas, the Health Secretary said: "We are assessing the situation, it's very fast-moving. We've seen with omicron there's a lot that we still don't know about omicron.

"That's the truth of the matter. The reality is there's a lot of uncertainty."

He added: "We know this thing is spreading rapidly. We know already now that in London, it's around 80 per cent of infections, in England it's around 60 per cent of infections."

'Vaccine ambassadors' deployed to boost jab uptake

The Government is trying a new method of convincing people to get their jabs: sending out "vaccine ambassadors".

Hundreds of people have been deployed in busy areas to give people more information on the vaccines and encourage them to take up boosters.

Almost 900 people will hand out leaflets in popular areas such as Brighton Pier, Liverpool One and King's Cross every day until Christmas on behalf of NHS England.

They hope to spread awareness about the new Omicron coronavirus variant and to encourage every adult in the UK to get their vaccine booster injection before Christmas.

An additional £22.5 million has also been provided by the Government to promote vaccination in the 60 local authorities with the lowest vaccine uptake.

The Community Vaccines Champion scheme will run informative events across the local authorities and create pop-up vaccination centres in places of worship.

Hundreds of vaccine ambassadors are being stationed at supermarkets, shopping centres & transport hubs to encourage people to #GetBoostedNow.

We met some of them in Manchester to hear how they're supporting the national effort on #COVID19 boosters
