The 57-year-old California native played college basketball for one year at Washington State.
He also attempted to play professional football, appearing in camp with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
Ball became a divisive media personality in the mid-to-late 2010s, famous for founding the Big Baller Brand and inviting big shoe companies like Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour to make a deal with him for the measly price of $3 billion.
Outlandish comments were his standard.
The elder Ball famously said he could beat Michael Jordan.
"Back in my heyday, I would kill Michael Jordan one-on-one," Ball once said many years back.

Before his youngest son LaMelo even sniffed the NBA, he claimed his son was already better than Steph Curry.
Fiery back-and-forth debates with Stephen A. Smith on national television became the norm.

As crazy as his statements were at the time, the elder Ball delivered on a lot of his promises and proclamations about his sons almost a decade later.
His eldest son, Lonzo, was the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017 draft.
He has since compiled nearly $113 million in career earnings, including a two-year, $20 million contract extension that he signed earlier this month.
His middle son, LiAngelo, is now a successful rapper, having released his hit song, 'Tweaker,' which has taken over locker rooms across the country.
He recently performed at NBA All-Star Weekend.

And of course, LaMelo, who was taken with the third overall pick in the 2020 draft, and has already become one of the league's most popular players.
At the end of his contract with the Charlotte Hornets in 2028, he will have accumulated nearly $240 million in career earnings, and still counting.
The Ball family's father was called a madman at the time, but look at them all now.
