Report: Bristol City 0-0 Leeds United Bristol City FC

Bristol City played out a goalless draw against Leeds United at Ashton Gate, extending their unbeaten run to seven consecutive games and remain undefeated at home. 

After an emotional tribute pre-match which saw Liam Manning return to the dugout Yu Hirakawa and Mark Sykes caused problems for the visitors in a transitional first half, while Max O’Leary made a brilliant save to deny Dan James. 

Leeds United applied the pressure in the second half but couldn’t find a way through City’s firm defence.  

Liam Manning and his side will travel to Preston North End on Saturday, November 2nd (3pm). 

An evenly contested first half saw both sides going toe-to-toe in the opening twenty minutes with no major chances for either. 

Luke McNally attempted an acrobatic effort after City did well to keep their corner alive. 

Hirakawa tried his luck from outside the area, faking once to beat the defender before seeing his strike deflect for a corner.  

Max O’Leary was called into action at the 30-minute mark, saving Brendan Aaronson’s strike from the edge of the area. 

City were forced into an early substitution as Kal Naismith replaced the injured Ross McCrorie. 

Joe Rodon headed towards goal from a corner, but his effort was well-held by O’Leary. 

Becoming increasingly menacing, Wilfried Gnonto drove powerfully through midfield, dodging City defenders before feeding Dan James down the right-hand. Quick off his line, O’Leary brilliantly saved James’ effort one-on-one. 

The first chance of the second half fell to the Whites, as James’ pull-back to Gnonto forced Zak Vyner into a goal-line clearance. 

Ten minutes into the second half, City ran a well-worked corner routine resulting in Nahki Wells firing just high over the crossbar. 

George Earthy and Sinclair Armstrong replaced Marcu McGuane and Wells on the hour mark. 

Armstrong made his presence known, forcing a foul and a booking for Jayden Bogle after his challenge stopped City’s break. 

Aaronson tried to curl one from the corner of the area, but his effort was straight at O’Leary. 

Hirakawa and Mark Sykes made way for Fally Mayulu and Elijah Morrison with just over ten minutes left to play.  

After a fiercely contested game, the points were shared at Ashton Gate.
