Singer and ex-One Direction member Liam Payne went viral on Sunday 27 March night when he debuted a bizarre new accent on the red carpet at Elton John AIDS Foundation's annual Academy Awards viewing party.
Forgoing his well-known Wolverhampton accent for a seemingly Irish-American twang, he left viewers scratching their heads.
Liam, who recently revealed the cheeky way his son got out of going to school, isn’t the only celebrity to have been called out for adopting a strange new accent over the years.

Liam PayneStrip That Down singer Liam, 28, was interviewed on the red carpet at Elton John AIDS Foundation's annual Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday night, when he was asked to give his take on the controversial slapping incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
His accent had changed from his recognisable Black Country accent to a hard-to-place mix of what seemed to be Irish and American. On the Oscars drama between Smith and Rock, he said of Smith: “I believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do.”

Joss StoneBritish singer Joss Stone, 34, perhaps most notable for her song Right To Be Wrong, was mocked for talking with an American twang at the 2007 Brit Awards.
The songstress, who hails from Dover, Kent, later defended her accent in an interview with The Independent, saying: “At the end of the day, I don't give a f**k if people have a problem with my accent. That's all I can say about it.”
Victoria BeckhamVictoria Beckham, 47, who rose to fame as ‘Posh Spice’ in legendary girl band Spice Girls, was known for her cheeky Essex accent.
Over the years, however, it seems she really has become ‘posh’, surprising fans with a very eloquent accent. In a segment for Vogue’s ’73 Questions’ video series in 2015, she left fans scratching their heads at her new way of speaking.

In 2003, Madonna's spokeswoman defended the singer’s new accent to The Wall Street Journal, saying: “She does naturally pick up on languages and sounds of people around her... It's certainly not meant as an affect... When she's back in New York for a while, she gets right into the New Yawk sound.”
