A SUSPECTED drunk cruise ship passenger hurled himself overboard as his family watched on in horror.

The man, 20, is said to have yelled "I'll fix this right now" before jumping out the window of the 18-storey Liberty of the Seas.

He is said to have jumped out of a window

Stunned passengers saw him leap at about 4am on Thursday as the Royal Caribbean ship travelled between Cuba and the Bahamas’ Grand Inagua Island.

Witnesses said his dad and brother helplessly watched him go over the side.

The US Coast Guard launched an immediate search for him.

His decision to jump appeared impulsive, onlookers said.

Passenger Bryan Sims said he was "pretty drunk".

He told the New York Post: "I had hung out with him and his brother in the hot tub until 3.30am.

"As we were walking from the hot tub back to the elevators, his dad and brother were walking towards us.

"His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess."

Mr Sims said the man told his dad: "I'll fix this now."

He then jumped out the window "in front of us all", Mr Sims said.

Another passenger Deborah Morrison said there "was a lot of yelling".

She said: "His family was horrified. Just beside themselves. I can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through."

Royal Caribbean, which runs the cruise, said its crew started rescue efforts straight away.

A spokesman said: "The ship’s crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort alongside the US Coast Guard, who has taken over the search.
