Thousands are set to flock to the capital this weekend to line the streets for the London Marathon. The road race is expected to attract plenty of interest ahead of the 2025 running as well in an event which advertises itself, and applying to take part is not tricky for any level of runner.
The very best athletes from around the world are set to take to the streets of London on Sunday in the hope of writing their names into the history books. Four strong fields have been named: elite men’s, elite women’s, men’s wheelchair and women’s wheelchair.
A whopping £243,000 prize pot is on offer in each respective race, with the London Marathon becoming the first-ever event to equally distribute prize money between wheelchair users and able-bodied runners.
An enormous amount of the wider public are also set to take on the 26.2-mile run in the hope of completing an incredible personal achievement whilst raising money and awareness for charities up and down the country. The magic of the marathon is certain to inspire others, and applying to experience the incredibly rewarding day of sporting action is as simple as a click of a button.
To run in the 2025 London Marathon, those interested must enter a ballot, which opened on 20 April and will close on April. The results of the ballot are then announced in July.
The cost of a spot in the London Marathon is £69.99, which does not have to be paid upon balloting – though it can be. If unsuccessful in the initial ballot, those who decide to pay when applying are entered into a fresh second ballot which has 2,000 spots in the iconic race available. Those who are from further afield can also enter, with a £120 price set for international entrants, as well as a £26 carbon offset levy.
