Luis Enrique has laughed off speculation linking up with the vacant Manchester United job.

United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer parted company on Sunday morning with the Premier League side now searching for an interim boss to see out the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Spain boss Enrique is among the names to have been linked with the post with the 51-year-old reportedly Cristiano Ronaldo’s favoured candidate to come in and steady the ship at Old Trafford.

But with Spain’s place in next year’s World Cup in Qatar secured, Enrique would appear to have no interest in a move to Manchester, joking ‘is it April Fool’s Day?’ when quizzed on speculation.

Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are all options United are said to be considering but it remains to be seen if any of those managers would be willing to walk away from their current clubs mid-season.
