Luke Littler achieved his first Premier League triumph in Belfast with the teenager admitting to make a slight tweak to his throw which certainly worked well for him

Luke Littler's first Premier League victory came on the back of a key change he made in his game.

The darts starlet rose to second in the table after defeating Nathan Aspinall in Thursday's (March 28) final in Belfast. En route to the final, he defeated world number one Luke Humphries as well as seven-time Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen.

Prior to his victory, he'd only reached the final once in the previous eight nights which he lost to the Dutchman but the 17-year-old managed to go all the way this time round.

The victory also saw the Warrington youngster bag the £10,000 prize money on offer to add to the exorbitant money he's won so far this year. Littler spoke to Sky Sports following his victory against Aspinall and revealed a key reason in his victory as he owed it to a slight change he'd made in his throw.

"I'm just happy to win. It's my first one. As people may have seen, I've changed my throw, just taking that little bit of extra time then releasing the next two. I've practiced more ahead of tonight. I've put more practice in and it's paid off."

When asked whether his decision to tinker with his throw was down to him feeling like he rushes his release, the teenager responded: "Sometimes I was rushing. Then I've put more practice in tonight and it's paid off. I just take that little bit more time before I release my next dart".

He also shouted out Rob Cross for a practice game the pair shared before engaging in action as he said: "I had a good practice game with Rob Cross before we came out tonight. We both had over 100 averages. I said to Rob, 'Cheers for the game.' It got me up for it. I practiced well".

While he's finally got a Premier League win under his belt, many believed he should have already achieved it back in night two when he missed a golden opportunity to defeat Van Gerwen when he missed two match darts.

He bested Nathan Aspinall in the final to claim his maiden Premier League triumph

Littler reflected on that painful night as he added: "Obviously in Berlin I missed the two [match darts] at double 10. I tried to compose myself but it didn't work.

"I had a watch back before, [Sky Sports commentator] Wayne [Mardle] said 'he did this in Berlin, the 48, 20, it didn't work out.' But it worked out against Luke. I'm glad to win it and obviously against a good friend in Nath."
