Lyrid meteor shower to peak next week How to watch Aprils dazzling show
Information on timing of the celestial event, viewing tips and more.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As if skywatchers need another reason to look up after the April 8 solar eclipse, the Lyrid meteor shower is set to put on a show this month with a dazzling array of shooting stars.

Known for luminous dust trains that can usually be seen for several seconds, the average Lyrid shower produces 15 to 20 meteors per hour. Showers can, however, intensify and produce up to 100 meteors per hour in what’s called an “outburst,” according to space.com.
