M1 closed by overturned lorry trailer causing 55 miles of traffic
Lanes three and four of the M1 southbound were shut from J25 (Derby) to J24A (A50)

An overturned lorry trailer closed part of the M1 and led to long delays for drivers. Lanes three and four of the M1 southbound were shut from J25 (Derby) to J24A (A50) at around 10am this morning (Thursday, January 25), but have now re-opened.

National Highways said this closure was in place so the vehicle and debris from the accident could be cleared up, which was completed by 11.55am. A Highways spokesperson said earlier: "Due to an overturned trailer, lanes 3 and 4 of (4) are closed on the #M1 south J25 ( #Derby ) - J24A ( #A50 ) for vehicle recovery and debris clearance."

The closure delayed motorists, resulting in 30-minute delays and a 5.5 mile queue. Traffic monitoring system Inrix said the incident which caused the closure involved a car, van and a trailer.
