M25 traffic: 90-minute delays and six-mile queues after lorry spills oil near Hatfield

There are severe delays on the M25 this morning in Hertfordshire, after a lorry spilled its load of vegetable oil onto the motorway yesterday. The M25 is completely closed in the clockwise direction between Junction 23 A1(M) South Mimms and Junction 25 A10 Enfield.

National Highways tweeted: "REMINDER - The #M25 clockwise in #Hertfordshire remains closed between J23 and J25. The road is likely to remain closed throughout the morning due to the complex nature of the clean-up. There are delays of 90 minutes between J21 and J25, please consider alternative routes."

The motorway has been closed since midday yesterday, Tuesday April 19, and there have been severe delays on the road since. As well as long delays clockwise, there are up to eight miles of queues anticlockwise as onlookers slow down to look at the empty road.

These anticlockwise delays are stretching back to Junction 27 M11. St Albans, Hertford, Potters Bar, Enfield and Waltham Cross are all very congested.
