Man City vs Newcastle highlights and reaction as Sterling, Laporte, Rodri and Foden send Blues top

Rodri and Jack Grealish have spoken about the City response to the Real Madrid defeat.

Speaking to Sky, Rodri said:

"We show the personality we have after the defeat. Incredible for us, football is like this, we have to wake up. You have two titles to fight, you have to stay focussed on PL. We ad 1pt, now 3pt. We have to keep thinking the same way. We lost in Madrid because football is like this. The personality we showed today after what happened was incredible.

"Emotional, it's a vital win. For us, the mood wasn't very high as you can see. Now we're switched on from Friday, we wake up, focus on the game. We've done unbelievable work. That's what champions do."

Grealish added:

"We knew it would be pressure on us today, especially after what happened in midweek. We bounced back perfectly, stuck together as a team in the last few days which was needed. We need to try to end the season strongly and we've done that today."

City are three points clear and have a superior goal difference over Liverpool. How things change in a few days.

Phil Foden does brilliantly, Jack Grealish has an assist, and Raheem Sterling fires City into a five-goal win. That could be huge.

Jack Grealish skins Keiran Tripper, feeds Aleks Zinchenko. The shot isn't clean, but it's straight into the path of Phil Foden, who diverts in a fourth.

CJ Egan-Riley's first task is to hold off Guimaraes near his own goal and play out of trouble.

His ball to Raheem Sterling tempts the foul from Matt Targett and the defender is booked.

Another centre-back goes off. Egan-Riley is on, he can play at the back as well as right-back.

The U23 captain will get another first team outing in the closing stages.

The tempo has slowed right down as City look to keep their three-goal lead intact. They've now scored more than Liverpool and have a better goal difference. Letting Newcastle back into this could have title race implications.

Callum Wilson gets one-on-one out of nowhere, but Ederson is alert to save well and keep that lead at three goals.

Jacob Murphy replaces the ineffective Miguel Almiron.

It's all gone a little scrappy here, with fouls creeping into the play. Kevin De Bruyne stops Allan Saint-Maximin from breaking away and accepts his yellow card.

The spirit is still there from the Newcastle fans but their players look like they would be quite happy for this match to end now. City are streaming forward looking for more goals, and look like they are more than capable of at least one more.

Lots of posturing ahead of a City corner that's delayed three times with various coming togethers. Dan Burn gets a booking for bringing down Aymeric Laporte, but the ball wasn't in play so no penalty.

Emil Krafth and Chris Wood are off. Keiran Trippier and Callum Wilson return from injury and replace them.

Allan Saint-Maximin uses his strength to create a shooting opportunity, but drags it well wide.

Newcastle haven’t been able to get the ball of City so far in this half, meaning the defensive uncertainties that the home side showed in the first half haven’t yet been on show.

Both teams are still looking for a goal, just one of them is having to make do without any of the ball.

Sky Sports have just shown a graphic that City have had 99 per cent of the possession in the opening seven minutes of this second half. Wow.

Fernandinho on for Dias at half-time, and Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez are all warming up as the second half begins. Guardiola clearly taking nothing to chance despite the scoreline.

First Gabriel Jesus twists and turns but can't cut it back to Kevin De Bruyne, then Raheem Sterlnig twists and turns and his cross is deflected just wide. Could have gone anywhere.
