Manchester City v Newcastle LIVE: Result and final score in Premier ...

Omar Marmoush scored a sensational first-half hat-trick to sink Newcastle United as the Egyptian announced himself at Manchester City.
Substitute James McAtee added a late fourth as City made light work of their visitors, although the day was not perfect for Pep Guardiola as Erling Haaland limped off near the end with what appeared to be a right knee injury, just four days before City’s Champions League play-off second leg in Madrid.
The result propelled City to fourth in the table and saw Newcastle slip back to seventh.

Guardiola gives Haaland update
Guardiola appeared confident when asked about the injury. “When he was down, everyone was scared but he got up and walked smiling like always,” the manager said. “I didn’t speak to him or the doctors but the doctors didn’t come with bad news so hopefully he is fine.”

Match summary
Marmoush’s first Premier League goal after 19 minutes - assisted by Ederson - was ultimately enough to settle the tie between Manchester City and Newcastle United at the Etihad, but the Egypt international would go on to make a real impression, netting twice more in the ensuing 14 minutes to register an impressive hat-trick, before a late McAtee strike following a corner gave Guardiola’s team a 3-0 win at full-time. The Magpies looked solid and organised in the opening quarter-hour but were decidedly second-best from the moment the first goal went in, and were unable to muster any kind of response at the other end of the pitch. Second-half substitutions looked to improve the visitors somewhat, with Miley registering Newcastle’s first and only shot on target 15 minutes after being introduced, but it was nowhere near enough to make it a nervy final frame for the hosts. City found the back of the net three times with an xG of 1.89, which puts them in good stead ahead of games against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Premier League next Sunday, dependant on the news of Haaland’s health following a non-contact knee injury sustained late in the match, while Newcastle United will be looking to respond in their next match against Nottingham Forest in eight days, after a poor showing with an expected goals of just 0.39.

Full-time: Man City 4-0 Newcastle
A terrific afternoon for City, with the only concern coming when Haaland went down and hobbled off, though it didn't look anything overly serious. Besides suggesting Marmoush could be a terrific signing, this could go a long way towards securing a top-four finish. Newcastle were rivals for one but they were battered. With Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest dropping points, City could also enjoy events elsewhere.

Full-time: Man City 4-0 Newcastle
A near-perfect day for City was blotted by Erling Haaland’s late injury. But it was a day to remember for Omar Marmoush, scoring a first-half hat-trick to push City’s case for a top-five finish in the Premier League and dent Newcastle’s challenge.

Man City 4-0 Newcastle
86 min: This is a major concern for City – Erling Haaland is down holding his right knee, it appears. He is guided down the tunnel by physios and will presumably receive immediate treatment in preparation for the Bernabeu next week.

GOAL! Man City 4-0 Newcastle (McAtee, 83 min)
Gundogan’s inswinging corner finds Haaland, who outmuscles Newcastle defenders to flick on for James McAtee to knock home from close range. A rough day for Newcastle.

Man City 3-0 Newcastle
78 min: City fans will be delighted to see Doku back in action, for the first time in a month, especially given the injury to Grealish. He could bring some firepower off the bench in Madrid if and when it’s needed.

Guardiola turns attention to Madrid
Pep Guardiola’s thoughts could now turn to Real Madrid so his substitutions may reveal some of his thinking. Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake, not playing today, are likely to come back into contention and the probability now is that Marmoush, a substitute for the first leg, will start in the Bernabeu. He has come off, along with Phil Foden, which could be a sign the Englishman is also likely to begin the game in Spain.
