Marc Guehi to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for first time

Marc Guehi has been handed his first senior international call up by England manager Gareth Southgate, The Athletic understands.

Guehi, 21, has impressed for Crystal Palace this season, establishing himself as a mainstay in Patrick Vieira’s defence since a permanent move from Chelsea.

He has previously been capped 16 times at Under-21 level.

Guehi is also eligible to represent ​​Ivory Coast, who England play in an international friendly. Before that Southgate’s side entertain Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday, March 26.

The England camp have taken in Guehi’s performances in recent weeks, with Southgate present at Palace’s 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 5 and his assistant Steve Holland there at the goalless draw against Manchester City on Monday.

Southgate is due to announce his England squad for the two friendlies at 2pm.
