The women of Deir ez-Zor stressed the continuation of their struggle to make every day a Women's Day after years of injustice, marginalization and exclusion, before and during the occupation of the region by ISIS mercenaries.

“We will make it a year full of struggle,” with these words one of the women from Deir ez-Zor expressed how happy she is with the preparations for and the approaching arrival of International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8 of every year.

“With their abilities, they achieved great successes.”

Speaking to ANHA's agency, Ruwayda Al-Ali congratulated all the women of the world, especially the women of the North and East Syria, for their steadfastness and readiness to welcome this day, which highlights the solidarity of the women of the world against mental and male discrimination.

Ruwayda continues her speech by saying: “Today, thanks to their abilities, many women have been able to achieve great successes, as they have begun to occupy all institutions and fields of life, whether political, military, or social. They have become an essential imprint in achieving the project of Autonomous Administration and co-existence among peoples.”

Ruwayda confirmed that they would make this year; a year full of struggle and achievements for women, and that they will continue to move forward and work with all their capabilities to make all women’s days holidays, not just March 8.

Since the establishment of the Autonomous Administration, the situation of women has begun to crystallize better than it was previously. In contrast to the tyranny that ISIS mercenaries exercised over women following their occupation of Deir ez-Zor, women were deprived of the majority of their rights, in education and work, which was dominated by a male mentality and some societal customs and traditions, as well as the brutal practices of Damascus government.

"A Day for Women's Uprising"

In her turn, citizen Hind Al-Ahmad indicated to our agency, “International Women’s Day is the result of women’s struggle against slavery and the violence practiced against them in all societies on the basis of the authoritarian male mentality, to keep women marginalized and far removed from their basic role, but we will prove to them the opposite, because it is a day for women’s uprising, and not to be subjected to injustice and persecution.”

Hind added, "Women's effective role in decision-making and defending the region, and the achievements they have achieved in Deir ez-Zor through their representation in civil and service institutions and fields, in addition to all military institutions, are the least they can offer."

She stressed, "Women will not remain prisoners of the harsh conditions they were exposed to during ISIS' occupation of the region. All women must prove their existence to obtain their rights and they must be active in all fields."

At the conclusion of her speech, Hind Al-Ahmad called on all women to enhance their role in all fields, and stressed: “We are the ones who create fruitful societies.”
