Martin Kemp tells son Roman he has 10 years to live after
Martin Kemp has opened up about his health ordeal and admitted he believes he might only have 10 years left to live. The Spandau Ballet star was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1995

Martin Kemp has candidly shared with his son Roman Kemp that he feels he might only have a decade left, following a serious health scare. The father and son are set to launch their new podcast titled 'FFS! My Dad is Martin Kemp', where they don't shy away from discussing profound topics such as mortality.

In the first episode of the podcast, Martin, 62, responded to Roman's question about life expectancy by saying: "10 years, I don't know!" The Spandau Ballet icon opened up about his past health struggles, including a brain tumour diagnosis at the age of 34, which led him to confront the possibility of death.

Martin recounted those challenging times, stating: "But I was the age of 34 when I went through all that brain tumour scare and I went through two years of my life thinking I was going to die."

Martin reflected on how every moment since then has felt like a gift, expressing gratitude for the time he's had post-recovery: "Every day, every year every month that I've lived has been a bonus. When I was 34 and I went through that brain tumour stuff, I was practically resigned to the fact I was gonna die.", reports the Express.

The former EastEnders star reminisced about his extraordinary life experiences, particularly during the 1980s with his band: "Every day, every year every month that I've lived has been a bonus. When I was 34 and I went through that brain tumour stuff, I was practically resigned to the fact I was gonna die."

He continued, sharing his contentment with the life he'd led: "But I was quite happy, because I'd lived the most incredible experiences. I lived through the 80s in a rock band, the people I met, the things I'd done. When I was 17 I was flying around Europe on jets drinking champagne at 7am."

Martin concluded by revealing his acceptance of his fate back then and how it has influenced his outlook on life: "When I thought I was going to die I thought, you know what, I'm quite happy. And that was back then, so every year that I live, every month that I'm alive now, is a bonus."

Martin and Roman Kemp have previously shared the screen on Celebrity Gogglebox and recently became the faces of Vision Express. However, they've never ventured into podcasting together until now.

Discussing their latest project, One Show host Roman explained: "I want to do things with you because I like that when I'm older, if I have grandkids, I have evidence to show my relationship with you."

The announcement follows Roman's poignant revelation about his departure from Capital FM. After 10 years, he hosted his last show in March, a decision influenced by the tragic loss of his good friend and Capital FM producer Joe Lyons, who sadly took his own life in 2020 at just 31. Roman admitted that continuing to work in the same studio where the tragedy unfolded was a constant reminder of the painful event.

"Imagine a tragedy happened in your house you're going to want to move," he told The Mirror. "I went through such a horrible moment in that studio...I've been living that same day over and over again." The One Show host expressed a desire to move forward, saying: "I'm ready to go 'OK, close that door now, don't keep going back living that horrible day'. Every day I walk in there and I see Joe...I think it's going to be good for me to move on with my life."
