Martine McCutcheon feared she'd 'kill' Hugh Grant on first day filming Love Actually

Martine McCutcheon appeared on The One Show on Friday and was delighted to learn her film Love Actually was voted the number one lockdown movie.

Speaking to hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo, Martine opened up on how it felt filming as Hugh Grant's love interest Natalie while he played the Prime Minister, David.

She laughed as she recalled the famous airport scene where she leaps into his arms - and revealed she had to film that on her first day.

Alex asked: "There is a stellar cast, did you know when you were filming it, did it feel special?"

Martine replied: "The cast felt special, obviously you had Oscar winners, but no, we didn't think it would be like this, it's like the new It's a Wonderful Life, it's timeless, and it's about all different types of love.

"It brings you together and it comforts you which as we all know, we need now more than ever we need that," she said.

On her "gracious" co star Hugh, Martine said: "I fell in love with him when I saw him in Four Weddings and a Funeral, and my dream was to work with him and Richard Curtis, so once I had done this, I thought, I am done, there is nothing left to do."

Speaking about the Heathrow scene, Martine said: "It was like Dirty Dancing – you know when she runs and then she stops, and then she runs and then she stops?"

"And the whole crew were there, and I had to do that, and I'm like, "I’m going to kill him! I’m going to knock him over and I’m going to kill him!" she laughed.

"And Emma Thompson was there, everybody was watching," she said, before adding Hugh quickly reassured her and put her at ease.

"And in the end we managed it - but what a thing, you’ve got to jump up at Hugh Grant and straddle him, first day!" Martine said.

The Masked Singer star also confirmed Richard originally named her character Martine, because he was so keen on her getting the role.

She revealed she panicked to Richard: "These are huge movie stars, Oscar winners and I don't know if I will be able to do it."

"He said, 'Oh shut up Teeny, I didn't want to tell you this, but I wrote the part for you!'" she recalled.
