Mason Mount true feelings made clear with brutal Chelsea return
Chelsea news as Blues fans show no mercy to former favourite during early stages of Manchester United clash after Cole Palmer starts on top

Chelsea fans were quick to taunt former player Mason Mount after two early goals at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night. Mount returned to his boyhood club for the first time since leaving in the summer.

In a battle between two enormously inefficient and underperforming clubs, Mauricio Pochettino's men showed early dominance, cruising into a 2-0 lead before the 20-minute mark. Conor Gallagher converted a deflected cross to give his side the lead before Cole Palmer scored from the spot shortly after the double the advantage.

Not starting the game, Mount was still targetted by the home faithful. "Mason, what's the score," sang the home supporters after Palmer's 14th league goal of the season.

Away fans have also offered little by way of positivity towards Mount since his acrimonious transfer saga, often heard voicing much more offensive chants towards the Cobham graduate. It comes after the 25-year-old scored his first for his new side last weekend against Brentford.

The Chelsea fans were soon drowned out by the travelling contingent though after yet another period of madness allowed the visitors back into the game. Mount saw his teammates draw level before the break thanks to goals from Anthony and Bruno Fernandes.

Speaking about the convoluted months that came before Mount's move, Erik ten Hag said, "I don't think they wanted to sell him." The United head coach added: "They wanted to keep him and offered him a new contract many times. But he wanted to make this step.

"We are very pleased he is a Manchester United player because he has great abilities and will contribute and become a big player for Manchester United."

Mount has spent most of his first season at Old Trafford injured. He missed the reverse fixture, which United won 2-1.
