NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION – MARCH 30, 2024

Kinmel Bay 2 (Morris pen, Gray)Llandyrnog United 0

Bay made the most of a chance at Y Morfa today to put right a dreadful 2-0 loss at Llandyrnog a few weeks earlier.

The hosts pressed the opposition straight from the off, having a lot of the ball.

They worked it well through the lines and a lovely ball was put through from Nyal Hughes to Tate Walker on the edge of the box, but the resultant shot went wide.

Llandyrnog had a couple of shots of their own which didn’t really trouble debutant goalkeeper Charlie Jones.

In the 26th minute a smart laid off through ball from Connor Morris released Oli Gray, who was adjudged by the referee to have been brought down in the box

Up stepped leading goalscorer Morris to dispatch the penalty calmly into the bottom corner

Llandyrnog had some half-chances towards the end of the opening period, Jones making some fine stops to deny the visitors.

Half Time: Kinmel Bay 1-0 Llandyrnog

A change at half time saw Mason Richards depart for Cory Owen. The second half was mainly a carbon copy of the first, with chances for both teams to score only for the keepers at both ends to show some fine form.

Gray, Morris and Haydn Rutter all went close for Kinmel, but just couldn’t squeeze the ball over the line.

Nyal Hughes hit a thunderous strike from 25 yards out only for Llandyrnog’s keeper Ryan Bennett to pull of a stunning save.

The game was wrapped up in the 67th minute when Gray, assisted by Walker, rounded his man and slotted the ball home.

This allowed for changes to be made for Kinmel Bay to see the game out

Connor Craig replaced Walker, Tyler Oakley-Evans came on for Gray, Chris Evans switched with Morris and Morgan Williams took the field in place of Nyal Hughes.

Bay now have a couple of friendly games lined up against Glan Conwy and Penrhyn Bay before their last league game of the season against title favourites Cerrigydrudion on April 20, before they play the Cookson Cup Final against Llandudno Junction on April 27 at Denbigh Town Football Club.
