Brits are bracing themselves for flooding, with London warned of a potential 40 hour patch of non-stop rain as the Met Office place weather warnings in parts of Britain

Britain is bracing itself to be battered by 40 hours of non-stop rain, with Met Office weather warnings now in place.

Wednesday (February 7_ has been tipped to usher in wet weather which is not set to end until Friday (February 9), with London and areas around the capital likely to be hit with a constant drip from gloomy skies. From the early hours of Wednesday to Friday evening, the weather in the UK could look horrendously poor with showers predicted, bringing on potential floods, travel delays and a host of miserable conditions.

Though there is still "some uncertainty" over the forecasts, the Met Office has predicted some "colder midweek" spells for the country, particularly in the capital. A spokesperson said: "[It will be] mild, cloudy and windy Tuesday, culminating in a period of rain into early Wednesday. [It will become] fine but colder midweek with eventual sunny spells, ahead of a wetter and windier Thursday."

Rains could be at their heaviest on Thursday, with heavy showers expected and Brits now bracing themselves for a nasty period of grim weather. Separate yellow warnings for rain are already in place until 9pm on Monday (February 5), the Daily Star previously reported.

Further forecasts for the rest of February proved just as disappointing for those hoping for sunnier skies. Their forecast reads: "Although there is still some uncertainty, conditions seem most likely to be drier and more settled overall for much of the UK with lighter winds mainly from the north or northwest but [there is potential for some stronger winds at times later on.

"This would increase the likelihood of colder conditions developing more widely for a time with potential for fog and notable frosts alongside wintry showers across the north/northwest or more widely as any isolated fronts move through later in the period."

Netweather reports confirmed the worrying updates for London, with their service blog predicting "disruptive weather" for the end of the week. It read: "Fronts will push in from the south-west on Thursday, introducing rain and milder air to England and Wales".

Said weather woes are "likely to result in some significant rainfall totals across a region of England and Wales, most likely the Midlands, northern England and north Wales, which could lead to some problems with flooding."
