Live: A38 crashes and roads flooded as deluge of rain batters Devon
Devon has been hit with torrential rain today which has caused mass flooding and traffic chaos. The Met Office issued a 28-hour warning for severe rain, with expectations of 45mm of rain falling across the region.
Warnings that public transport would be affected by the downpours, as well as warnings that driving conditions on roads and motorways would be difficult, were issued. A yellow rain warning came into force at 2am this morning (February 8) and will remain in place until 6am on Friday morning.
Multiple areas across Devon are now impassable due to flood water. Motorists are being advised to avoid badly affected areas where possible.

Multiple crashes have further affected Devon’s roads today. The A38 at Lee Mill is partially blocked due to a multi-vehicle crash. Also at Kennford, the A38 is closed following a separate crash. The Exeter-based forecasters said: "A couple of bands of rain, heavy in places, will push northwards across southern England and south Wales during Thursday and early on Friday.
"Whilst a drier interlude is likely for a time during the middle part of Thursday, many places in the warning area will see 15-25 mm of rain accumulate during this period. However, some higher ground areas of southern England and south Wales could see as much as 35-45 mm of rain."
