Star Wars and James Bond actor Michael Culver dies age 85
'Our friend': British actor Michael Culver dies at 85

British actor Michael Culver has died, at the age of 85, multiple outlets are reporting.

Culver's death was confirmed by his agency Alliance Agents in a statement which read: "We are very sad to confirm the passing of our friend and client Michael Culver."

Culver, who died on February 27, is best known for his role in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back and had smaller roles in some James Bond films.

His agent Thomas Bowington also told Sky News: "The part in Star Wars was one of the smallest parts he ever played and became one of the biggest in his life."

He went on to describe Culver as "one of those classic English character actors".

"He belonged to the backbone of the nation, he wasn't a star like a Michael Caine, but everything he did was always never less than excellent.

"He always delivered. He was one of those classic English character actors who could play anything."

Alliance Agents added in their statement: "It's been an honour to have represented Michael for for the last decade and to have taken him to some of the best Star Wars events in the UK and Europe."

"A real highlight was taking Michael to Celebration in Chicago in 2019. He was lost for words when he saw his queue line with nearly 200 people waiting to see him."

Culver was born in London's Hampstead in 1938, the son of actor Roland Culverand, and is survived by his grandchildren.

He reportedly trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

He is also known for roles in Sherlock Holmes and Secret Army.

In The Empire Strikes Back, he played Captain Needa and had a death scene.

In recent years, he turned away from acting to pursue political activism.

The late star also spent considerable time acting in the theatre.
