Actress Minnie Driver claims she almost lost her role in Good Will Hunting because convicted rapist and film producer Harvey Weinstein thought she wasn't attractive enough.

Minnie, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Skylar in the film, said the 70-year-old told others that "nobody would want to f*** her".

Speaking to The Times, she said: "I remember feeling so devastated until I realized, 'Hold on, just consider the source for a minute. That is an unutterable pig — why on earth are you worried about this f*** saying that you are not sexy?

"But there are ramifications of that: that maybe I am not going to be hired because people don’t think I have the sexual quality that is required."

According to the 52-year-old, Weinstein wasn't the only producer working on Good Will Hunting who thought she wasn't sexy enough for the role.

Despite the comments, others involved in the production - including co-star Matt Damon - advocated for Minnie's role in the film.

In a statement addressing the allegations, Weinstein, who is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence, admitted that he wanted to replace Minnie with Ashley Judd.

"Harvey believes that Minnie Driver is an excellent actor, but it is true he had championed Judd for the role," said a representative for the disgraced producer.

"He admits when he is wrong and Minnie was fantastic. He claimed to have never said anything regrettable about Ms Driver and had hired her for several films. He wishes her luck and success on her memoir."

Minnie's memoir, Managing Expectations, was published on May 3.
