MollyMae Hague under fire for resurfaced comments
Molly-Mae had been talking Dragons' Den's newest star Steven Bartlett on his The Diary Of A CEO podcast

Molly-Mae Hague has sparked backlash as comments she made last year have resurfaced.

A video posted on Twitter featuring the 22-year-old, who rose to fame after appearing on Love Island 2019, has garnered a lot of attention.

It shows and hears Molly-Mae talking to Dragons' Den's newest star Steven Bartlett on his The Diary Of A CEO podcast.

Her interview with Steven came after she was announced as the new creative director of Pretty Little Thing.

In the clip, Molly-Mae says: "You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction.

"When I’ve spoken about that in the past, I have been slammed a little bit, with people saying, 'It’s easy for you to say that, you’ve not grown in poverty, you’ve not grown up with major money struggles, so for you to sit there and say that we all have the same 24 hours in a day, it’s not correct'.

"And I’m like, but technically what I’m saying is correct. We do. So I understand that we all have different backgrounds and we’re all raised in different ways and we do have different financial situations, but I do think if you want something enough, you can achieve it.

"It just depends to what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in the future. And I’ll go to any lengths. I’ve worked my absolute a**e off to get where I am now."

The clip from the podcast, which was released last year, was posted on Twitter by @tsrbys and it has since racked up more than 18,000 likes, thousands of quote tweets and hundreds of replies.

It was also shared by presenter and podcaster Jessica Davies who said: "I respect Molly Mae for making the most of her opportunity & grabbing it with both hands, but I DESPAIR at the quote about everyone having the same time in a day as Beyoncé.

"The reality is that social inequality means there’ll never be an even playing field."

Jessica added: "Race, Health, Gender, Social class, Sexuality, Mental Health, Disability- the list goes on. Society is not designed to give everyone equal opportunity and this is unfortunately just tone deaf straight out of a Girl Boss meme.

"Molly Mae is a great role model for young women to look up to and see a successful woman who’s smart about her business, but the ‘just work harder’ mentality is very capitalist of her.

"Of course there are those from working class backgrounds, ethnic minorities and single mothers etc who do graft hard that ‘make it’ and have success stories. But the system is designed so that they don’t, it doesn’t mean that others simply didn’t try hard enough."

But not everyone was impressed.

@leahxelizabeth_ tweeted: "Ngl I like molly mae but if you’ve never been in poverty you’ll never know how hard getting out of poverty is, it’s an endless cycle. Yes life is what you make of it but it also helps when you don’t need to stress about what you or your family are having for dinner."

"Looooool I love molly mae but I don't think she's a trailblazer or inspiring and I knew her interview would highlight this. It comes across as privileged waffle because it is," @__sxzhr shared.

During the unscripted podcast, Molly-Mae spoke also about her 'ordinary' life in Hertfordshire before moving to Manchester on her own when she was just 18-years-old.

The influencer also spoke about one of the biggest difficulties she recently faced was when her lavish home in Hale was broken into.
