UFC star Molly McCann broke a two-fight losing skid and picked up the first submission win of her career by tapping out Diana Belbita.
'Meatball' was without a win in 18-months heading into her fight against Belbita at UFC Fight Night 235 in Las Vegas. The Scouser was beaten up on the ground by Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281 in her pay-per-view debut and shockingly tapped out by Julija Stoliarenko in London last July.
McCann was hoping to turn over a new leaf in her strawweight debut against Belbita, whom she had already beaten on points when they fought back in 2019. She started her second fight against the Romanian well by landing a big overhand and Belbita was on the backfoot in the opening seconds. McCann continued to mix up her striking and was getting the better of Belbita on the feet.

McCann landed a good double leg takedown and found herself in full mount as the first round came to a close. The Scouser was throwing down heavy elbows in the final 10 seconds but it looked like Belbita would be saved by the bell. McCann then abandoned her strikes and jumped onto an arm-bar, forcing a tap from Belbita with just one second left in the round.
“It feels amazing, I'd just like to take this time to apologise to the UFC, my fans and myself for not being at the right weight class for all my other fights and for my last two performances. Today, I forgave myself and I can move forward. Say less do more, say less do more. The plan was to be a world champion at 125lb but that didn’t work out.

McCann dedicated her win to Irish MMA fighter Ryan Curtis who was involved in a horrific training accident earlier this month that left him with a broken back, broken neck and dislocated spine. "I’ll get back to youse all tomorrow, but Ryan Curtis that was for you lad. Your flag, your shirt," McCann wrote on Instagram
