O'Connor: "Everyone to a man worked their socks off."

Shrimps' skipper Anthony O'Connor has praised the team's work rate and effort following Morecambe's FA Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

O'Connor opened the scoring on 33 minutes after connecting with an Alfie McCalmont corner and side-footing home.

Three second half goals however, courtesy of Harry Winks, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane ensured the hosts' place in the Fourth Round.

Despite defeat, O'Connor says he feels proud of how his teammates performed on the day.

"I'm really proud of the lads today," he said.

"Everyone to a man really worked their socks off, it's not easy when you come up against a team like Spurs who are a top, top team in world football, and have a top manager as well.

"I know we had to defend for large periods, but I'm really proud of the lads, there are a lot of positives to take.

"A goal is always nice, I'm not walking away from here thinking 'I've scored a goal, it's brilliant for me', I'm ultimately disappointed that we lost the game.

"If we could've won the game and I didn't score, I'd chop your hand off for that."

With the second half of the Sky Bet League One season underway, O'Connor says it's important that the Shrimps apply themselves in similar fashion when it comes to league games.

He added: "We've got a massive game coming up, more important than today.

"Drawing a great club like Spurs, today was more for the fans, a great day out for them, and we wanted to come here and cause an upset of course.

"The league is our bread and butter, we know that, I'm sure the manager will be drilling that into us during the week that this game is gone now.

"That starts in training this week, building up to a big game next week."
