Peacemaker Makes His Mortal Kombat 1 Debut in New Trailer
DC's Peacemaker emerges as the next Mortal Kombat 1 fighter, dishing out punishment and taunts with the assistance of his weapons and feathered pet.

Peacemaker is finally joining the Mortal Kombat 1 party.

An official gameplay trailer for the latest Kombat Pack character has been released to YouTube, previewing a TV-inspired Peacemaker going head-to-head against the existing Mortal Kombat cast. Voiced again by John Cena, this Peacemaker switches between sharing insults and flirting with Liu Kang, Mileena, and Quan Chi before delivering a variety of offensive attacks against them using his fists, desert eagle gun, and signature headgear. The trailer also features a fatality involving the helmet's Sonic Boom attack, the return of Peacemaker's pet eagle Eagly during combos, and a new Kameo fighter named Janet Cage, an alternate gender-bent Johnny Cage seen in Mortal Kombat 1's final level.

Peacemaker marks the third Kombat Pack character to drop on Mortal Kombat 1 since November, and the second to come from a non-Kombat franchise. Previous characters included Invincible's Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons) and Quan Chi, while upcoming fighters include Ermac, Takahashi Takeda, and The Boys' Homelander. However, unlike Simmons and Cena, The Boys actor Antony Starr revealed that he will not be voicing Homelander in the game. Additionally, while Mortal Kombat 1 was a critical success, a November poll posted by franchise creator Ed Boon revealed that Mortal Kombat fans would like to see cross-play between consoles going forward.

First introduced in The Suicide Squad, Cena's DC antihero received his own spinoff in James Gunn's Peacemaker series, with its season finale becoming Max's biggest single-day performing episode at the time of its release. More recently, Gunn confirmed that he completed writing the scripts for Peacemaker season 2 -- which will take place in Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU era -- and that, due to various season 1 deaths, "a new intro with new characters" will be filmed. This post-Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom DC timeline will begin with Gunn's upcoming Superman film Superman: Legacy, which recently held a table read featuring a Kingdom Come-inspired version of Superman's chest insignia. Along with David Cornerswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicolas Hoult will play Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, while Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Edi Gathegi will have supporting appearances as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific respectively.
