Former Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson shares new health update ...
Former Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has taken to social media to provide a rare update on his health just over a year after he left Ashton Gate.
The 61-year-old spent just under three years in charge of the Robins and was an incredibly popular figure among supporters. The former Leicester City boss initially put pen to paper on a short-term contract as Dean Holden's replacement, but after impressing in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, he agreed a three-year deal with the Robins.
In his first full season in the West Country, he guided City to Championship safety once again, avoiding the drop by a comfortable 18 points, before showing definite signs of progress in his second season as the Reds finished 14th and closer to the play-off positions than the bottom three. The former Derby County manager also led the Robins to the fifth round of the FA Cup where they faced Manchester City at Ashton Gate.

Pearson was ultimately sacked in October of 2023 with the Reds sitting 15th in the Championship following a disappointing Severnside derby defeat to Cardiff City in South Wales. Supporters were quick to voice their disappointment with the decision, especially when Robins chairman Jon Lansdown cited poor results as the reason for the change despite the fact that the Reds were contending with an injury crisis at the time.
In his final season at Ashton Gate, the former Leicester City boss was often spotted walking with the aid of crutches as a result of an unknown health issue. While Pearson insists that the exact cause of his ill health remains unknown, the 61-year-old has been quick to thank his supporters for their unwavering support while he has learned to walk again.
"I would like to thank all the kind people who have continued to send their support during the last 13 months," Pearson wrote via X. "I'd like to update you. Learning to walk again has been an incredible challenge. My appreciation of support from family, friends, colleagues, supporters, and medical professionals has been profound.
"I had the wonderful opportunity of travelling to the US with my dad to meet family for the first time, in Wisconsin. Recently, I've been able to cycle in the Peak District, and swing golf clubs at the driving range, although my follow-through needs some work (I've not fallen over yet!)

"Although my prognosis is still uncertain, believe me, that positivity and laughter can prove the best medicine as I experienced with old friends from school on a canal narrow boat on my birthday... there is always light somewhere ahead... new possibilities, new challenges.
"Take care of each other, and enjoy a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones. Cheers, Nige."
Pearson is yet to take on a new managerial job since leaving Ashton Gate last year but did appear as a pundit on Sky Sports on several occasions last season, often offering his opinions on Leicester City as Enzo Maresca's side comfortably won the Championship title to secure promotion to the Premier League alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton.
