Nile Rodgers Jr is a Grammy-winning record producer, musician and songwriter, composer and guitarist who is known for co-founding the 1970's duo CHIC. Rodgers was a guitarist with Bernard Edwards as the bassist in CHIC, who famously put out the songs Le Freak and Everybody Dance.

The now 69-year-old from New York wrote, produced and performed records that sold over 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide. He was also in the English rock band The Honeydrippers in 1984, 70's R&B group New York City, and band Material from the 70's to 1999.

Nile Rodgers will be interviewed on BBC Two in a documentary-style hour special called Amol Rajan Interviews Nile Rodgers. This is available to watch on BBC Two today (Thursday, March 10) at 9pm and on BBC iPlayer thereafter.

Rodgers lives in Connecticut with his life partner, former magazine editor Nancy Hunt. The couple have been together for over 20 years. They do not have any children.

Rodgers' mother was 13 years of age when she gave birth to him in 1952. When she remarried, she became addicted to heroin with her partner and eventually Rodgers became an addict at the age of 13.

Rodgers learned a variety of instruments when growing up from clarinet to flute and guitar. He joined the Black Panthers political movement, several bands and made a name for himself in New York.

Now, Rodgers lives in a waterfront home in Westport, Connecticut that can be seen on Virtual Globetrotting. The couple have a large driveway, a patio at the rear with a deck area that backs onto an extended lawn. The back lawn also has a small bridge into the Bermuda Lagoon and Smith Beach Harbour that the Westport houses share.

The musician reportedly has a net worth of $100 million, which is around £76.1 million. He has made his wealth from his long-time contribution to the music industry since the 1970's with his songs going on to be sampled in hip hop music by stars such as Will Smith, Notorious B.I.G and Pitbull.

He is known for being a staple in funk music and for his guitarist skills. As well as pioneering timeless soul and funk music in the 70's, Rodgers went on to join the French duo Daft Punk to produce the hit Get Lucky (2013), selling nine million copies worldwide.

In his producing days from the 80's, Rodgers worked with icons such as Diana Ross, Madonna, and David Bowie. The producer and musician has also been conducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Amongst his many accolades, Rodgers has three Grammy Awards.
