Gerrard aims dig at United

Steven Gerrard aimed a subtle dig at United after returning to Anfield for the first time as Aston Villa manager.

Having ended Celtic dominance in Scotland during a successful stint as Rangers manager, Gerrard has touched back down in the Premier League at Villa Park after Dean Smith was sacked.

Gerrard started up at the Villa helm with victories over Brighton and Crystal Palace.

The 41-year-old also overcame Leicester City either side of more challenging meetings with two Premier League contenders - City and his former club Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Naturally, there was plenty of noise surrounding the game as Gerrard made his grand return to Anfield.

For the most part, the ex-England international blocked out that sentiment, though, but he did let his guard slip when reviving his relationship and rivalry with United while speaking to Michael Owen.
