Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Who is Oblique Seville? Will Jaimaica's new sprinting sensation star in the 100m final?

The men's 100m final is always a must-see event at the Olympic Games.

It has given sports fans some great moments over the years, including Usain Bolt's iconic Olympic record at London 2012 and Marcell Jacobs' stunning performance in Tokyo three years ago.

A new generation of sprinters will be on show on the eye-catching purple track of the Stade de France this summer.

Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley will all be involved in the final, but one name is on everybody's lips following the semi-finals.

Oblique Seville ran the second-fastest time in the men's 100m semi-finals and he is now one of the favourites in the final.

Seville recorded a personal-best time of 9.81 in semi-final 1, 0.01 second slower than his compatriot Thompson.

He has already caught the world's attention, and now it is time to take a closer look at Jamaica's latest sprinting sensation.

Who is Oblique Seville?

Seville is a 23-year-old sprinter from Jamaica who has taken the world by storm over the last few years.

After impressing in domestic competitions, he burst onto the world stage at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Seville registered a time of 10.04 to finish second in heat 3 and progress to the semi-finals three years ago.

However, he failed to make it into the final after finishing fourth in semi-final 2 behind Team GB's Zharnel Hughes, Nigeria's Enoch Adegoke and Trayvon Bromell of the USA.

Seville bounced back despite the disappointment in Tokyo.

He went one step further at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, making it all the way to the final.

The 23-year-old then showed how bright his future could be as he put in a superb performance to finish fourth.

Seville finished fourth a year later in Budapest, but he showed he has the pace to test anyone in the world, running the fastest time of the event during the heats.

He did not go home empty handed though after helping Jamaica win a bronze medal in the 4×100m relay.

In 2024 he ran what was then a world-leading time of 9.82 at the Racers Grand Prix, beating 100m final rival Lyles.

He is certainly one of the favourites at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but can he perform when the eyes of the world are on him?
