Manchester City have a serious player on their hands in Omar Marmoush

Yesterday saw Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov make their debuts for Manchester City against Chelsea. In the case of Marmoush, in the 74 minutes that he was on the pitch, he showed that Manchester City have a serious player on their hands. The Egyptian international put in an all-action display in City’s crucial 3-1 win over Enzo Maresca’s side.

You could tell early on that Marmoush will bring something that Manchester City have lacked to Pep Guardiola’s side. He is quick, and his movement up front complements that of Erling Haaland. You could see that right from kick-off at the Etihad yesterday. Although he was caught offside on several occasions yesterday his movement up front will be a potential weapon for Manchester City. On the ball, Marmoush showed plenty. He was a handful for the Chelsea defence and his quality was apparent throughout yesterday’s match. Although he didn’t score or grab an assist there were plenty of positives to take from Marmoush’s debut for Manchester City.

Erling Haaland was full of praise for the performance of Omar Marmoush yesterday. He believes City have signed a special player from Eintracht Frankfurt. In an interview published on mancity.com, Haaland said: “I think, especially in the first half, you can see he has something special. There’s a reason City brought him because he has something special. He got straight in the team and It’s about getting to know him as soon as possible because there are so many important games coming. It’s about giving him confidence and he’s going to be a fantastic player for us.”

It will take time for the Manchester City players to adjust to the movement and playing style of Omar Marmoush. But once they do Pep Guardiola’s side will have a lethal frontman on their hands. Yesterday, we saw several of his clever runs go unrewarded, but once players such as Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne get on the same wavelength as the Egyptian international, it will be a sight to behold. Omar Marmoush also linked up with Erling Haaland in the second half for a chance a minute before Haaland gave City the lead. That snapshot showed that there is the potential for the pair to form a devastating partnership up front.

All told it was a promising debut from Omar Marmoush yesterday. It is obvious to see that Manchester City have signed a serious player from Eintracht Frankfurt.
