The nominations for the 2022 Oscars have been announced, with nods for a wide range of British talent.

Sir Kenneth Branagh‘s autobiographical film Belfast was recognised in an array of categories, while Benedict Cumberbatch received his expected best actor nomination for The Power of the Dog, which received the most nods overall with 12.

Olivia Colman, won the best actress Oscar in 2019 for her role in The Favourite, landed her second nomination in that category for her role in The Lost Daughter.

The nominees were unveiled on Tuesday 8 February, in a live broadcast hosted by Girlfriend actress Tracee Ellis Ross and Will & Grace star Leslie Jordan.

When are the 2022 Oscars?

The winners of the 2022 Academy Awards will be announced on Sunday 27 March, having been delayed by a month from the original date of 27 February.

This move was reportedly an attempt to ensure it didn’t clash with the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics.

In the US, the Oscars will be broadcast by ABC, while in the UK Sky Cinema usually airs the event on the special, temporary channel Sky Cinema Oscars, with red carpet coverage followed by the actual ceremony.

Because last year’s ceremony was delayed by two months due to Covid, the eligibility window for entrants has had to be narrowed down slightly to 10 months rather than a full year.

In order to be eligible, a film must have been released between 1 March and 31 December 2021.
