UFC VEGAS 36 PLAY-BY-PLAY: 185 lbs.: Derek Brunson vs. Darren TillRound 1: Till pushing forward early. Good 1-2s. Brunson looking to sling overhand lefts in return. Clean 1-2 from Till once again. One minute in. Again. A third time. Brunson responds with a successful double-leg into side control. Now half guard. Good pressure and balance from Brunson on top. Two minutes in. Solid punches. He postures up for some even bigger shots. Nasty elbows with two minutes to go.
Brutal ground-and-pound from Brunson. Till tries to turn for a leg, denied. He gets a bit of space and stands with a minute to go. Elbow from Brunson on the break. Till sporting some swelling under his right eye. 10-9 Brunson, could have been a 10-8 if he’d stayed on top.
Round 2: Brunson with a well-timed shot. Excellent early balance from Till, who gets hauled to the fence. Brunson re-shoots on the break. Jockeying for position on the fence. Good knee from Till on the break. Another knee, but Brunson powers through it for another takedown into half guard. Staying tighter this time. Two minutes to go.
Till has underhooks but isn’t looking to sweep to his feet. Elbows to the body from Brunson. Nice elbow upstairs. One minute to go. Till trying to regain guard. Brunson latches onto Till’s back as the latter tries to stand and drops punches. Till makes it back to his feet before the bell. 10-9 Brunson.
Round 3: Till’s right eye is looking rough. Good straight left lands for him. Another 1-2. Brunson puts him on the fence, eats a knee and elbow. Till low kick, Brunson 1-2. Till with another knee a minute in. Low kick. Brunson with a couple of short lefts, gets buzzed badly by a straight left. Somehow he manages to hit a double-leg anyway and move right into mount. Now the back. There’s the RNC and an immediate tap follows.

265 lbs.: Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei SpivacRound 1: Aspinall pushing forward to start. Jab to the body connects. 1-2 on the fence. One minute in. Clean 1-2 splits the guard. Spivac tries a counter right. Aspinall’s hands are considerably faster than Spivac’s, though he’s being patient so far. Sneaky uppercut. Spivac shoots two minutes in. Aspinall with a knee to the body, then floors Spivac with an elbow on the break. Aspinall jumps on him with punches and there’s the stoppage.
Final result: Aspinall def. Spivac by TKO (elbow and punches)
170 lbs.: Alex Morono vs. David ZawadaRound 1: Zawada very aggressive early, landing punches. Counter right by Morono. One minute in. Quick Zawada blitz. Heavy counter right lands for Morono, who eats a low kick in return. Jockeying for position on the fence. Trading knees to the body. Morono cracks him with an overhand right on the break. Two minutes in. Zawada with a right to the body. Morono with another long counter right. Lead right this time. Zawada tries a snap kick to the body. Flurry. Morono with a counter hook, dings Zawada with a really looping punch with two minutes to go.
Zawada tries a spinning back kick. Two left hooks come back at him. Body kick appears to land. Morono’s doing a good job of catching him on the way in and out. One minute to go. Zawada jab connects. Morono with a flurry in return that forces him back. Another swatting counter right. Big swings inside. Zawada eating them so far but getting outlanded. There’s a nice right hand for him. They trade body kicks. 10-9 Morono.
Round 2: More exchanges in the early going. Zawada to the body, Morono to the head a minute in. 1-2 from Morono, flurry comes back at him. He answers a body shot with a right hand upstairs. Jabs up top, backstep hook. Monster counter right that Zawada somehow shakes off two minutes in. Another heavy cross. Quick exchange. Zawada digs a body shot and eats a right cross in the process. Two minutes to go.
Hard counter two-piece lands for Zawada. Morono doubles up the jab in response. Zawada with some dirty boxing in the clinch. Jab to the body. Double jab from Morono in return. One minute to go. Oblique kicks by Zawada. Left hook to the body as they exchange jabs. Sharp counter right by Morono to answer a blocked kick. Overhand at the bell. 10-9 Morono.
Round 3: Zawada slips while blitzing, gets caught with an overhand right after getting up. He’s admirably aggressive but Morono’s landing the better shots by a clear margin. There’s a nice 1-2 for Zawada, who tries to roll into a leglock. Morono scrambles from the front headlock to the back, holding onto the body lock on the fence. Zawada tries an elbow on the break. Right hand by Morono two minutes in. Spinning back kick downstairs, then a clean spinning back fist to kick off a combo. Zawada still marching forward and throwing heat. Two minutes to go.
Zawada tries a three-piece combo. Good right hand downstairs. One minute in. Body shot into a successful double-leg against the fence. Morono holding onto a front headlock, stuck on his rear. Morono scrambles up into a rear waist lock and tries to put in a hook. 10-9 Morono.

205 lbs.: Modestas Bukauskas vs. Khalil RountreeRound 1: Good right hook from Rountree, then a clean straight left that knocks Bukauskas back. Counter 3-2 and Rountree’s on the attack. Bukauskas tries to throw with him and gets rattled again. Rountree keeps backing him to the fence and sneaking in bombs. One minute in. Bukauskas’ nose looks badly broken. Jabs landing for him as he circles. Rountree rips a pair of body shots after eating a jab two minutes in. Counter left by Rountree. Bukauskas tries a head kick. Rountree dialing the pressure back a bit. Two minutes to go.
Hard low kick from Rountree. Jab from Bukauskas. They trade rights. Clean straight left lands for Rountree. Bukauskas landing his jab but little else. One minute to tog. Rountree straight left and low kicks. More low kicks. A final flurry catches Bukasukas trying to spin. 10-9 Rountree.
Round 2: 1-2 from Rountree, low kick behind it. Another good right hand. Glancing overhand left. One minute in. Jab from Bukauskas. Another stiff jab, met by Rountree right hooks. Right cross from Bukauskas a minute in. As Bukauskas sends out a jab, Rountree fires a low-line side kick that appears to just destroy Bukauskas’ knee, ending the fight immediately.

155 lbs.: Paddy Pimblett vs. Luigi VendraminiRound 1: Pimblett tossing out kicks to start, appears to land a left high kick. Switch kick attempt. Brief clinch. Low kick exchange. Nice counter left from Pimblett, who gets blasted with a monster left hook and taken down into half guard a minute in. Elbows from Vendraimini. Front headlock, elbow, separation. Pimblett low kicks. One from Vendramini two minutes in. Quick two-piece by Pimblett, head kick attempt. Low kick exchange. Sneaky head kick. Another big left hook by Vendramini and they brawl against the fence. 1-2-3 from the Italian. Pimblett tries a combo. Two minutes to go.
Pimblett head kick attempt, eats a leg kick in return. His calf is looking reddened. 1-2 lands for him. He shoots, tries to kick Vendramini’s base out, can’t do so. One minute to go. Rapid exchange near the fence. Big right hook by Pimblett hurts Vendramini and Pimblett absolutely tears into him with a flurry of punches, ultimately turning the lights out against the fence.

125 lbs.: Molly McCann vs. Ji Yeon KimRound 1: McCann looking aggressive early. Right cross from Kim, who gets cracked by some heavy punches in return. Brutal left hand by McCann from southpaw. Kim trading with her inside. One minute in. McCann with an overhand left into the clinch. They separate. Kim with a right downstairs, overhand from McCann in return. She ties up briefly, then drops McCann with an accidental headbutt against the fence two minutes in. McCann tries to shoot, sprawled on. She tries a whizzer throw, can’t get the back. Double unders from Kim. Knee to the body. Two minutes to go.
Kim keeping McCann against the fence, landing knees downstairs. One minute to go. McCann manages to separate and tries to get it back with some heavy punches. Kim stuffs a level change. More big punches from McCann at the bell. 10-9 Kim, even acknowledging that the knockdown was a headbutt.
Round 2: McCann getting the better of the early boxing exchanges. Low kick and jab from Kim. McCann with a lead right in return. Clean overhand right, combinations. One minute in. Kim 1-2, McCann overhand. McCann just stalking her, gets cracked by another right cross and low kick. Left hook lands for her. Overhand rights connect. 2-1 from southpaw. Kim low kick and 1-2. Hard right cross inside. Two minutes in. They trade lefts. McCann lead right. Counter rights to answer a leg kick. Left hook on the break. They trade rights. Two minutes to go.
Right cross and left hook by Kim. 2-3-2 from McCann, then a body shot. Kim comes back with a hard right and low kick. McCann to the body again. Spinning elbow misses, straight left does not. 135 lbs.: Jack Shore vs. Liudvik SholinianRound 1: Shore sitting at range, throwing low kicks and jabs. 1-2. Sholinian tries to answer in kind and falls short. One minute in. Another clean jab from Shore. Clean leg kick. 1-2. Sholinian plodding after him, falling short with his own punches. Shore catches a kick and takes him down into guard two minutes in. Sholinian trying to make space, unable to. Elbows from Shore. Two minutes to go.
Half guard for Shore. Good transition, looking for the back, and he immediately switches to a deep arm triangle. He hops back to mount with a minute to go, then takes the back. Sholinian makes it back to his feet. Elbow from Shore at the bell. Borderline 10-8 through sheer dominance, but not quite enough damage. 10-9 Shore.
Round 2: Ref pauses the fight to warn Sholinian for the fingers again. Shore goes back to the jab, lands a low-high 1-2. That jab is nasty. Body kick connects, then more jabs. Reactive shot from Shore and he drags Sholinian to the mat a minute in. Hunting the back again. Sholinian stands and separates, then goes back to plodding forward. Clean 1-2 from Shore, unsuccessful shot. Two minutes in. Short left hook, clean jab. Sholinian eating most of what comes his way and landing very little of his own. He shoots with two minutes to go.
Shore separates and goes back to potshotting. Good double-leg attempt by Sholinian, can’t complete it. One minute to go. Sholinian continuing to plod onward, continuing to get picked off relentlessly. 10-9 Shore.
Round 3: Shore punishing that lead leg with regularity. Right hand upstairs. Brief level change. Clean left hook and jabs a minute in. Left hook, low kick, left hook, jab. More jabs, then he commits to a double-leg attempt. Good defense by Sholinian. Knees to the body. They separate. Sholinian with a rare clean connection on the right cross. Nasty combo by Shore draws some appreciation from Sholinian, who puts him on the fence after denying a shot. Tow minutes to go.

145 lbs.: Charles Jourdain vs. Julian ErosaRound 1: Both men try early head kicks. Overhand left from Jourdain. Erosa comes back with a long right. He catches a kick and hauls Jourdain to the fence. They separate. One minute in. Jourdain on the front foot, walks into a jab. Low kick from Erosa. Hard right hands. Jourdain swings big, just misses a head kick. Continuing to push forward. Hard left by Erosa. Two minutes in. He catches a kick, tries a knee, cracks him with a left hook. Jourdain body kick. Right cross wobbles Jourdain for a moment. Counter left from him, Erosa comes back with a right cross. Two minutes to go.
Nice body shot by Erosa on the fence. Flurry in the center. Sneaky elbow, walking Jourdain down. Straight left from Jourdain, then a harder one soon after. Erosa walks into another counter left and this one finally knocks him down, but he wakes up instantly and Jourdain lets him up. Low kick from Erosa. One minute to go. Left hook by Jourdain, now on the front foot. Erosa tries a combo. Low kick from Jourdain and they trade hooks. Erosa with a spinning elbow. Jourdain backs him to the fence, takes a 1-2. 10-9 Jourdain on the knockdown.
Round 3: Right back to the high-speed exchanges. Brutal point-blank bombs. Erosa grabs a body lock and hunts a trip, ultimately completing it into guard. One minute in. Jourdain trying to use the fence to stand. Knee to the body from Erosa. Then one to the head after they separate. More body knees two minutes in. Jourdain with a body kick and left hook. Erosa pressing forward, tries a jump knee and changes levels for another takedown. He wraps up a sneaky d’arce as Jourdain tries to stand and forces the tap.

185 lbs.: Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Dalcha LungiambulaRound 1: Both men pawing with early punches. Low kick from Lungiambula. Barriault sends out a front kick downstairs. Both swing rights on the fence. One minute in. Lungiambula tries to tie up, can’t get the trip. Barriault steadily advancing, gets cracked by an overhand right. Another big exchange on the fence. Lungiambula lands a jab downstairs two minutes in. Low-high combo from “Champion.” Barriault fires a combination in return, avoids an uppercut. He steps into the clinch and exits with an elbow. Two minutes to go.
Glancing high kick by Barriault, who absorbs a heavy overhand on his guard. Lungiambula chains a double-leg into a clinch throw, then grabs the front headlock on the way up. Barriault separates, lands a low kick. One minute to go. Barriault continuing to advance, eats a jab through the guard. Sharp right cross lands for him. Lungiambula with a lovely inside trip. can’t keep him down. Barriault pops him with another cross before the bell. 10-9 Lungiambula?
Round 2: Both swing early hooks. Overhand left from Lungiambula, leg kick. Barriault punches into the clinch and they crack each other at point blank. Good body kicks. One minute in. Jab to the body. Lungiambula tries a body shot, catches a body kick, knocks Barriault over with a low kick. Barriault right back on the advance. Two minutes in. Tossing out kicks, avoids an overhand left. Explosive takedown attempt from Lungiambula, eats a knee. Blasting each other on the fence. Sharp left hand from Lungiambula. Barriault sends out crosses. Lungiambula to the body. Round 3: Barriault kicks, Lungiambula punches in the early going. Good body shot from Lungiambula. Overhand right glances off. Barriault with a right cross a minute in, keeping Lungiambula near the fence. Trading heat. Big uppercut from Lungiambula that Barriault shrugs off, then an eye poke he does not. The referee warns Lungiambula that he’s losing a point next time. Back to trading, good jabs from Lungiambula. Barriault right cross, Lungiambula power jab. Two minutes in. Hard overhand lands for Lungiambula, but he can’t seem to budge Barriault, who sprawls on a double-leg. Counter right by Lungiambula. Barriault with an elbow and uppercuts. Two minutes to go.
Continuing to exchange on the fence. They’re just bombing each other with haymakers. Lungiambula’s landing some monster shots and they’re having no effect. Barriault continuing to trundle after him and dig in uppercuts with a minute to go. Low kick and right hand from Barriault, now taunting as he walks forward and swings. Lungiambula still connecting.
