Leeds United fans react as Patrick Bamford toils in play-off heartache

Leeds United will be playing Championship football again next season after losing to Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

They lost 4-2 on the night to Derby County, completing a 4-3 aggregate loss.

Leeds, in the end, were punished for some poor individual performances on the night. Kiko Casilla was erratic in goal, Liam Cooper sub-par and Pablo Hernandez failed to be at his best. Gaetano Berardi’s decision to revert to type and see red did not help.

However, plenty of Leeds fans were far more frustrated with their striker. Patrick Bamford, a £7 million signing from Middlesbrough in the summer, struggled throughout the game.

Back from suspension after deceiving an official he was swiftly booked for diving in the early stages.

He then proceeded to have little impact on the game. The Leeds striker’s first-touch let him down throughout and he could not put the same amount of pressure on the defence that Kemar Roofe, out with a calf injury, manages.

By the time he came off for Izzy Brown, many Leeds fans had seen enough. In fact, on twitter, the reaction was severely harsh. Some would happily see Bamford sold after a season marred by injury and indifferent form. His performance in the biggest game of the season will not help his cause.
