What happened to Kylie Platt on Coronation Street as Paula Lane ...
Paula Lane is making her debut in Emmerdale this week - but she was previously a huge part of rival soap Coronation Street.
The actress - who is best known to viewers for playing fan favourite Kylie Platt on the Cobbles - has recently started a new role on Emmerdale, where she plays Ella Forster. In last night's episode, Ella got herself in trouble with her boss when she poured water over him for shaming Mandy Dingle and her dress, and tonight she'll head into the village.
Whilst fans are excited to see what Ella will get up to, Kylie played a huge role in Coronation Street and things haven't been the same on the Cobbles since her departure - but what happened to Kylie on Corrie?
What happened to Kylie Platt on Coronation Street?
Kylie Platt died around seven years ago in some of the most heartbreaking scenes the ITV soap has ever aired. She exited the soap back in 2015 when her character was murdered by villain Clayton Hibbs in a shocking knife attack leaving fans broken.
She had previously explained how her character's death had meant she needed to push harder for new jobs. She said earlier this year: "I think it's made me work harder. I think once you close the door on something like that, it's quite hard to walk back into it and pick up where you left off. It might not have had the same magic to it either. But you can’t guess, can you? It is what it is. It gave me an absolutely fantastic ending ... I'm happy that I have to take on these different roles now. And it's amazing to see people's reaction when they see you in something so different as well. There's nothing more fulfilling than that."
What has Paula Lane said about joining Emmerdale?
Paula plays newbie Ella on the Dales, and she previously shared how she "manifested" her role in the Yorkshire soap.
Speaking about her return to soap, she told The Mirror and other press: "Timings wise, I think I manifested it! And then a conversation came about and through that a seed was planted, and then the magic happens. So I think it was just yeah, a little bit of a coincidence. But it fell in my lap. And I feel really grateful and very thankful. And like I said, I just want to do the best that I can do."
Paula went on to explain why she waited so long after her Coronation Street exit to do another soap role.
"I’m always a big believer in going with kind of what’s put in front of you. And the past seven years have been really exciting. I mean, I’ve covered loads of theatre, covered lots of ground, as well as raising my family, and doing guest roles on different TV programmes as well. So I think obviously, like you’re saying, when you are such a familiar face, it’s nice to give the audience a bit of a breather," she said of heading back to a serial drama for the first time in several years," she said.
What's happening with Ella going forward?
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has teased Ella will find herself caught up in some romance drama going forward.
"She’s got a new job in the doctor’s surgery. She’s going to quickly find herself catching the eye of one of the village’s most eligible bachelors. I’m really delighted to announce that we have cast that person and it’s the wonderful Paula Lane, who is joining the show. And she’s going to start shooting with us this week," Laura revealed.
Paula added: "I am absolutely thrilled to be here, very very surreal. I couldn’t believe when I pulled up, I was like ‘oh my gosh’. But I’m really excited about starting a new chapter and putting my stamp on it. I can’t wait to start filming - my first day’s on Thursday!"
