Boris Johnson has hailed Peppa Pig World as ‘my kind of place’ after enjoying a day out with his one-year-old son and his wife Carrie.

The family, who are expected to welcome another child in December, was spotted on the Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club boat ride at the theme park in Hampshire.

Visitors spotted the prime minister, sporting a casual winter blazer, dark blue jeans and a green beanie, as he queued for the colourful ride.

He was all smiles while accompanying Carrie and son Wilfred on the boat, which sailed through a flower-filled garden past scenes featuring the cartoon pink pig and her friends.

George Bell, 30, was out on a family trip of his own when he spotted the 57-year-old politician waiting to go on the same ride.

He said: ‘I first spotted him when he was queuing ahead of me. He briefly said: “Hi, how are you?”

‘Then on the water ride itself, my carriage bumped into his. He remarked the ride was “awfully slow”.’

But Mr Johnson must have enjoyed the ride as he rambled about his ‘love’ for Peppa Pig World less than 24 hours later during a chaotic speech at the UK’s highest-profile business conference.

The audience looked lost for words at the opening of the Confederation of British Industry, in what has been dubbed as ‘one of his weirdest speeches yet’.

He rifled through a stack of papers in front of him for about 20 seconds, and then asked business executives attending the conference to raise their hands if they had also been to the theme park.

He went on: ‘Yesterday I went, as we all must, to Peppa Pig World. I love it. Peppa Pig World is very much my kind of place: it has very safe streets, discipline in schools.

‘Who would have believed that a pig that looks like a hairdryer or possibly a Picasso-like hairdryer, a pig that was rejected by the BBC, would now be exported to 180 countries with theme parks both in America and China?

Mr Johnson, who was supposed to address the audience about green policies, also pretended to be an accelerating electrical car going ‘vroom, vroom’.

Even more, he compared his 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution to the 10 Commandments brought down by Moses from Mount Sinai.

Business leaders were also told that the job of the Government should sometimes be to ‘get out of your hair’ and ensure less regulation and taxation.

Labour and Green Party MPs took to social media to criticise his gaff-filled speech, with Caroline Lucas labelling it ‘incoherent’.

The MP for Brighton Pavilion tweeted: ‘PM’s “green growth” speech to CBI was incoherent and rambling.

‘Stories about Peppa Pig, imitating a racing car and “mother Nature is against working from home” – really.’
