Plymouth bomb scare avoid area warning as multiple homes evacuated
A suspected WWII bomb has been found at a property in Keyham this afternoon (Tuesday, February 20)

Police officers have evacuated multiple properties in Plymouth after a suspected bomb has been discovered. Homes in the area of St Michael Avenue and St Aubyn Avenue in the Keyham area have been evacuated as police swarm the streets.

Police were alerted to reports of a possible bomb at 10.36am this morning (February 20). Officers rushed to a property in St Michael Avenue amid reports of a possible World War II bomb in the garden of a property.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) has been informed and police are facilitating a cordon in the area. Homes are being evacuated as officers go door to door to warn residents.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently at a property in St Michael Avenue #Plymouth where a suspected WW2 ordnance has been found. There is a cordon in place and some properties are being evacuated. Please avoid the area at this time and we’ll provide more information when we can.”

Devonport Local Policing Team has posted that anyone needing shelter following the evacuation can visit North Prospect Library. They wrote: "Officers are working hard to keep you safe. Anyone needing shelter following evacuation advice can get it at North Prospect Library".

One resident from St Aubyn Avenue had called PlymouthLive to say they had just been alerted to the incident along with their neighbours. They said: "We've been told to leave our homes - all the residents in St Aubyn Avenue. Police are out knocking on doors telling people there's been a bomb found. They've closed off the lane behind our road. Apparently it's an old World War Two bomb."

At this time, there is little information about the suspected bomb. Emergency services have not confirmed the size of the device and it is not clear how big the cordon is. PlymouthLive has no confirmation on the number of properties which have been evacuated.
