Next Man United manager: Odds and Mauricio Pochettino latest as PSG boss new favourite

Next Man United manager Odds and Mauricio Pochettino latest as PSG boss new favourite
Michael Carrick has taken charge of Man United while the club goes in search of a new manager who can turn things around for the Red Devils

The inevitable has finally happened as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Manchester United manager on Sunday just 24 hours after his side’s abysmal 4-1 defeat to Watford in the Premier League.

The result - and the performance - continued United’s inconsistent and unacceptable start to the season and the decision was eventually made to sack the Norwegian after three years in charge.

Michael Carrick has stepped up to take temporary care of proceedings while the club goes in search of a new manager, with plenty of names in the running already.

But former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, has risen to the top of the favourites list and is reportedly unhappy in France and keen on the job at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rogers are supposedly on United’s shortlist, along with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

Who do you think Man United should appoint as their next manager? Have your say in the comments section.

Pochettino latest

Current PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has become an overnight favourite to become the next Man United manager.

The Argentinian built up quite a reputation whilst at Spurs after guiding them to a Champions League final and playing an attractive brand of football, and has been one of the hottest managerial names around ever since.

And despite having one of the best teams at his disposal that includes the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, it has been reported that Pochettino is supposedly unhappy in Paris.

United have stated that they are only looking for someone to see out the rest of the season, before hiring someone permanently ahead of the next campaign, yet Pochettino wants the Red Devils job ‘now’.

He has been made the number one target by the club.

Other candidates

As expected, there have been plenty of other names who have been put in the running for this role and some even before Solskjaer was sacked.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has been a favourite to take over at Old Trafford for the past few weeks yet the Northern Irishman initially dismissed any talk of a move and it was believed he wants to at least see out this season with the Foxes.

However, it was later reported that Rodgers had been house hunting in Cheshire, sparking further rumours that a deal could be on.

Zinedine Zidane has also been heavily linked to the job but the Frenchman had initially snubbed the Red Devils due to a number of reasons but the prospect of reuniting with Cristiano Ronaldo could still be a big factor in the decision.

And things have since developed, with Zidane now apparently ‘warming’ to the job and it looks like it could be a two-way race between him and Pochettino.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is another candidate who could yet take over at Old Trafford, as the Dutchman has had an impressive spell at the Amsterdam club and ticks a lot of boxes for United.

Moreover, the opportunity to manage a club as big as United could make it hard for the 51-year-old to turn down.

Former United defender and recently sacked Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has also come into the running as the club look for their short-term solution.

Bruce is said to be ‘very keen’ on the temporary role until the end of the season and this deal could quite possibly be on, which would certainly come as a huge surprise for many.
