The government-approved tests, which will be valid for the UK’s day-two, day-eight and test to release arrivals programmes, will also be offered in discount bundles.

The retailer’s new service launched and was added to the UK government’s approved list of testing providers on Monday (13 December).

The at-home tests will be processed at Amazon’s lab in Salford, which was set up last year to process tests for employees.

Customers will receive the results of their tests within 24 hours of their sample arriving at the laboratory.

Earlier this month, Amazon started selling domestic testing kits in the UK, which were not suitable for travellers.

Antoine Dreyfus, the Amazon director at the helm of the company’s Covid-19 testing work in the UK, said access to "reliable and affordable" testing remains a "critical tool in the fight against the spread of the virus".

"The Amazon test collection kit offers customers the convenience they’ve come to expect from Amazon.co.uk by providing access to highly accurate Covid-19 testing, at an affordable price," he added.
