First Ever Porsche 911 Hybrid Will Debut This Summer

Porsche's CEO confirms that high-performance 2025 911 hybrid will utilize technology developed on the racetrack

2024 will be the biggest year in Porsche history for product launches and, along with the introduction of new Panamera, Macan, and Taycan models, the automaker has also confirmed that it will unveil a hybrid version of the 911.

Set to be revealed this summer, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume promised that the electrified 911 will be imbued with technology developed on the racetrack, to help it compete with rivaling hybrid sports cars and supercars.

“Once again we are deploying technology in series-production models that we have derived from the world of motorsport,” said Blume. “And our customers can look forward to further technological innovations along those same lines.”

Little is known about the 911 hybrid, but it will be part of the model’s mid-cycle refresh. However, it is believed that Porsche is going to add a motor between the front wheels and keep the flat-six engine responsible for the rear wheels.

The automaker is also believed to have worked with Rimac, a company in which it now owns a 45 percent stake, to develop the electric portion of the drivetrain. A specially designed lithium-ion battery will focus more on keeping weight down than on range. As a result, the 911 is expected to be a standard, self-charging hybrid, not a plug-in.

Elsewhere, the updated 911 (992.2) has been spied sporting a new front fascia with louvered intakes, new headlights, and taillights. In addition to the 911, Porsche is also in the process of rolling the new Taycan, including the new Turbo GT, as well as the third-generation Panamera, and the all-electric Macan.
