Port Vale fans warned of road closures for Burslem Festival

Port Vale fans are being warned of road closures in the Mother Town. A number of roads are closed in Burslem today as Burslem Festival continues.

Port Vale are hosting Newport County at Vale Park from 3pm this afternoon as Vale try to clinch promotion to League One. The club have sold all their home tickets for the game - the first time since 1990 that the club have sold out all home ends for a league game.

The game coincides with the Our Burslem bank holiday event which resumes at noon today (May 2). The popular bank holiday bash features a number of bands, alongside a fun fair and various stalls.

It means Burslem town centre is closed off to all vehicles and Staffordshire Police have warned that road closures are in place from 9am until 7pm. Port Vale and Newport County fans heading to the game should plan their journeys and allow extra time.

Here's the list of road closures for this year's Burslem Festival:

• Top of Newcastle Street, at its junction with Woodbank Street. Traffic travelling from the direction of Middleport towards Burslem will have to go down Woodbank Street.

• Market Place itself will be closed at its junction with the main Waterloo Road (by The Post Office Vaults).

• Wedgwood Place will be closed at its junction with Scotia Road (by The Bursley Ale House).

• Queen Street will be blocked off by The Kismet.

• Burslem town centre will be closed off to all vehicle access.

Port Vale say they will be opening their turnstiles early at 1.45pm due to the expected large attendance.
