We are nearly there; 2024 is almost over, and what a year it has been for all of us at QVH!
As the clock turns towards another new year and 2025 beckons at the stroke of midnight, let’s have a look at some of the highlights of the past twelve months here at our fantastic hospital.
We’ve picked out just some of the incredible achievements of the past year, and we know this barely scratches the surface of the work our people do day in day out to provide world class care for our patients, so thank you to everyone.

- Our staff think we’re doing well too, shown by the results of the 2023 NHS Staff Survey which came out in March – Staff say QVH is one of the top specialist hospitals to work in – Queen Victoria HospitalLook out for 2024 results early next year.
- Continuing with our fantastic results in surveys, our Cancer patients give us thumbs-up in national survey – Queen Victoria Hospital, saying we were the best in country. Another big thank you to our patients for providing all of the valuable feedback for us.
- We’ve been a world renowned hospital, known for innovation and excellence in care, for decades and on a late August day in 2024, we held an event to recognise this – QVH celebrates 80th anniversary of C-Wing – Queen Victoria Hospital.There is now a Canadian maple tree planted close to the main entrance to commemorate the special relationship we will have forever with our Canadian friends.
- We are driven to provide excellence in care, and that’s why we must always look to invest in the best medical equipment – Hospital invests £750,000 to improve access to diagnostics – Queen Victoria Hospital.
- We even went across the water to France. Ward Manager Kim heading out to Paris with ParalympicsGB – Queen Victoria Hospital Kim Brinkworth, who can usually be found on C-Wing, was the Lead Nurse for ParalympicsGB, where she met up with Will Bayley, who narrowly lost his gold medal match in this year’s Paralympic Games. - It’s also been a busy year for QVH Charity as we increase awareness of the charity brand and continue to develop partnerships with local businesses. Our charity ambassadors have helped us in doing this, but many of our colleagues have also been supporting – Hospital consultants and QVH colleagues get on their bike for Charity – Queen Victoria HospitalThey and others helped raise thousands for the charity in 2024. Thank you to everyone who supported our magnificent seven!
- We are always keen to recognise and support awareness days that take place throughout the year, and this year we teamed up with other blue light services for a really important day QVH joins forces with fire and rescue services across the region for National Burn Awareness Day – Queen Victoria HospitalThis was the first time this had happened across the region and the partnership work was highlighted on local television.
- We’ve also celebrated other days such as International Nurses Day and World AHP Day, and additionally taken time to celebrate our individual and collective achievements with our annual Star Awards ceremony.
- We’ve said goodbye to old friends, welcomed many new faces and are looking to the future too, with our new strategy plans for the next five years being ratified QVH new strategy to go before Board – Queen Victoria Hospital
- To succeed in our ambitions, 2024 also saw the launch of our new vision and values.Our vision is to be a centre of excellence that rebuilds lives and supports communities for a healthier future. Our new values are:
We will do this today, the last of 2024, and tomorrow, the first of a new year, and we will continue to strive for excellence every day, as we always have.
