United States Queen missed this major life milestone for Prince Louis, but will she miss it again for Lilibet Diana?
The Queen reportedly missed a major life milestone for Prince Louis, but it’s thought she could miss this moment again with Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Queen’s sprained back might’ve sadly forced the monarch to miss out from the annual Remembrance Service earlier this month. But it didn’t stop Her Majesty from delighting royal fans with her double christening appearance on November 21st. This saw the monarch travel to the Royal Chapel of All Saints near Windsor Castle for the baptism of two of the Queen’s great-grandchildren.
Princess Eugenie’s son August Brooksbank and Zara Tindall’s son Lucas, both of whom have the middle name Philip in honor of the late Duke of Edinburgh, were christened, the day after what would’ve been the Queen and Prince Philip’s 74th wedding anniversary.
Prior to the historic double christening, speculation had arisen whether the Queen would be there after previously receiving advice to “rest”. However, whilst she did end up attending this marvellous occasion, it seems there was one prominent royal christening she did end up missing—that of Prince Louis.

According to Hello! magazine, it was confirmed by Buckingham Palace ahead of the christening in July 2018 that the Queen wouldn’t be in attendance. At the time it was believed that this was agreed between the monarch and the Prince’s proud parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The Queen previously attended the christenings of Louis' siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The publication reports that the choice to miss Prince Louis' was thought to be due to the Queen’s incredibly busy schedule as she prepared to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force and host then-US President Donald Trump.

She was also reportedly traveling back from Sandringham in Norfolk ready for these engagements. Her Majesty is also said to have missed the baptism of one of her other great-grandchildren, Isla Phillips, the daughter of Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips.

Now there’s likely to be another two christenings coming up in the not-too-distant future, with Princess Beatrice’s daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor yet to be baptised.
When Prince Charles returned from his tour of Jordan and Egypt, he was said to give a gesture that Lilibet’s christening could be imminent. Already rumors have circulated about where it might be held, with some suggesting that the Sussexes could return to the UK for it.

Other reports have instead claimed that the Queen could miss Lilibet’s christening if it’s held in the US. As Lilibet is now almost six months old and Sienna just two months old, it’s Lilibet’s christening that’s expected to come first. Though given the Queen’s busy autumn schedule and preparations for 2022’s Platinum Jubilee year, it’s not known whether or not the monarch will be there.
Having reportedly only missed this major life milestone for Prince Louis and possibly also Isla Phillips in the past, however, it seems likely that the Queen would very much love to be part of this special occasion if it is indeed held in the UK.
