Mattel has released a Barbie doll to honour Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. It’s now for sale and here’s where you can buy the collectable doll.

April 21 2022 marks Queen Elizabeth II’s 96th birthday, and this year, she’s celebrating her Platinum Jubilee aka her 70th year on the throne.

The famous toy company, Mattel, have taken it upon themselves to honour the longest-reigning British monarch by releasing a Barbie doll in her likeness.

It’s the second doll of the Tribute Collection, following the Lucille Ball edition in 2021, which sold out immediately. Interested in picking it up? here’s where to buy the limited doll.

Mattel has captured the Queen’s likeness down to her accessories; her crown is based on Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara, which she wore on her wedding day. Rather than dressing the doll in a replica dress, the designers aimed to create an outfit “inspired by the Queen’s iconic looks”.

Senior Director of Barbie Design Robert Best explained that the gown is modelled after the styles and colours the monarch has favoured in royal portraits over the last few years. “She very much has a signature style and look – always a very simple design in white or ivory, which makes sense given that she must then wear all the accompanying jewellery and sash as befits her rank,” he explained.

Wearing an elegant ivory dress, the doll is decorated with a blue sash adorned with the Royal Family Orders; the pink and blue ribbons were awarded by her father, George VI, and grandfather, George V, respectively.

The figure dropped on the Queen’s birthday (21 April) and is packaged in a box inspired by the throne room of Buckingham Palace. It’s topped off with a printing of a crest-shaped logo and badge commemorating the Platinum Jubilee.

The doll is available to purchase from Walmart, Target and Mattel in the US for $75. For UK royal-lovers, it is sold at Harrods, Hamley’s, Selfridges and John Lewis, according to The Independent.

We think the doll is quite accurate, especially the Queen’s signature white short curls, but CBS Philidephia anchor Jim Donovan believes it looks more like acting icon Helen Mirren.

Aside from the Barbie, the 96th birthday will be marked with gun salutes and a new photograph of the royal with two impeccably-groomed white ponies at Windsor Castle.
