Quentin Tarantino Reunites With Star As Final Movie Casts Its First Major
Actor
The Movie Critic will be Tarantino's tenth feature.

Summary

  • Tarantino's final film gains momentum with the addition of a major star to the cast, building anticipation for what's to come.
  • The reunion between Tarantino and a favorite collaborator creates excitement among fans, as they eagerly await the director's presumed last hurrah.
  • The undisclosed role the newest cast member will play in The Movie Critic adds intrigue and leaves audiences wondering what character he will bring to life.

Quentin Tarantino is set to reunite with a favorite star as the director's presumed final movie, The Movie Critic, casts its first major actor. Tarantino pronounced long ago that his tenth feature film would be his last, and the filmmaker appears ready to stick to that promise as he prepares his latest film. Details are scarce when it comes to the film’s story, but Tarantino has teased it as being set in California in 1977, and revolving around a film critic writing for a sleazy porn magazine.

Tarantino’s The Movie Critic release date has not yet been revealed, but it is being reported that the cast is coming together, with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star Brad Pitt the first to hop aboard (via Deadline). Details about Pitt’s character are still under wraps.

Is Brad Pitt Playing Tarantino’s Movie Critic?

Pitt first starred for Tarantino in Inglourious Basterds, then returned to play stuntman Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a role for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. It’s yet to be seen whether Pitt is playing the titular Movie Critic character, but there is evidence to suggest that he is indeed not set to portray Tarantino’s mysterious porn magazine cinema scribe.

Tarantino’s Movie Critic lead character was inspired by an unnamed real writer who supposedly died in his thirties.

Tarantino has given few specifics about his Movie Critic lead role, but he did declare that he was seeking an American actor to play the part, as he is tired of British stars playing American roles. Pitt fits the bill in that regard, but Tarantino also suggested he was looking for someone younger than the star, who is now 60. As the director told Deadline back in May 2023:

“I haven’t decided yet [on a lead actor] but it’s going to be somebody in the 35 year-old ball park. It’ll definitely be a new leading man for me. I do have an idea of somebody I can imagine doing it really well."

It would seem Pitt does not meet the requirements Tarantino said he is looking for in a Movie Critic lead actor. The director does frequently change his plans, however, and it’s possible that he’s altered his idea of the character since that interview. Pitt may indeed not be playing the lead of The Movie Critic, but it’s still great news that he’s back in the fold for Tarantino, as his Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood performances were both career highlights.
