Antony was sent off for a horror challenge in Real Betis’ 2-1 La Liga win over Getafe. The Brazilian has made a decent start to his temporary stay in Spain after being offloaded by Manchester United in January.

He had scored twice in four league games for Betis and grabbed an assist in last week's 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. On Sunday, Antony continued his start to life with an assist for Isco to open the scoring.

The former Real Madrid player doubled Betis' lead in the 77th minute before Borja Mayoral halved the deficit. However, in injury time, Antony's good start to life in Betis came tumbling down as he was shown a straight red card for a sliding challenge on Juan Iglesias.

After his attempt to counter Getafe failed, Antony chased the defender down, diving into a late challenge as Iglesias played the ball back to the goalkeeper. Replays showed the Brazilian made contact with the right-back's right foot, and referee Javier Alberola Rojas showed the on-loan United winger a straight red card.

It's the first red card Antony has been shown since he received two yellow cards in a 3-2 win over Feyenoord during his Ajax days. Unless the red card gets overturned, the 24-year-old is set to miss next week's big clash with Real.

Antony had looked like he was going to show the form that convinced United to pay over £80million for him in 2022. The winger has struggled to impress in England; his loan move to Spain is a lifeline to revive his career.
