Until 2021, Red Nose Day was held every other year, but it will now be held annually.

The run-up to the big day usually involves fundraising events across the UK for charity Comic Relief.

TV specials are also aired throughout the week, concluding with a live Red Nose Day telethon, hosted by Comic Relief co-founder Sir Lenny Henry.

TV stars and celebrities will come together for a three-hour telethon, during which viewers will be encouraged to pitch donations.

Who will appear in the Red Nose Day 2022 show?

Some of the UK’s best loved celebrities will be putting in an appearance over the course of the evening.

Stand up comic and star of shows Fresh Meat and Bad Education, Jack Whitehall, will feature in the night’s proceedings.

Viewers can also expect to see Double act French and Saunders, Olympic swimmer Tom Daley, and Strictly Come Dancing winners Rose Ayling Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

The evening will also feature comedy greats David Walliams and Matt Lucas, actor and funny man Guz Khan, and Repair Shop presenter Jay Blades.

Details of Red Nose Day 2022 Who will host the show?

The now annual fundraising show will be hosted by Sir Lenny, singer and TV personality Alesha Dixon, David Tennant, actor and comedian Paddy McGuinness, and radio presenter Zoe Ball.

They have all had some experience presenting the show in years past, with Tennant having done so on four previous occasions.

How can viewers watch Red Nose Day 2022?

According to the broadcaster’s TV schedule guide, Red Nose Day 2022 will air on BBC one from 7pm.

This year, the show will be broadcast from the BBC studios in Salford for the first time.

The entertainment will feature a mix of hilarious sketches, live performances and one-off comedy specials, as well as film features showing the positive impact Red Nose Day donations have made across the UK and the world.

It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

What are the origins of Red Nose Day?

The Comic Relief charity was founded in 1985 by comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Sir Lenny in response to the famine in Ethiopia.

Comic Relief is centred around a now annual telethon, called Red Nose Day, which usually takes place in mid-March.

Acts as small as buying Red Noses and baking cakes help raise thousands for causes in the UK and across the world.

How much money has Red Nose Day raised?

Last year, the Red Nose Day festivities raised £55 million for the Comic Relief charity.

Over its 30 year existence, Comic Relief has raised more than £1 billion, with the amount raised by this charity peaking in 2011 at £108.4 million.

The money raised has decreased in the four Red Nose Day events since then.

How can people fundraise for Comic Relief?

People can register for free fundraising packs and other fundraising tools, which are now available via the Comic Relief website.

The pack is full of fundraising ideas, from bake sales to community challenges, which will help people get involved in Red Nose Day fundraising efforts.

You can also a red nose, T-shirts, aprons, or other accessories from the Comic Relief shop to show support, with proceeds also going to charity.
