Reese Witherspoon Says Actor Isnt Her Friend Anymore After Speech
Witherspoon said the tone of her speech ended up not being appropriate for the “British, elegant, classy” event.

To this day, Reese Witherspoon is “haunted” by a speech she gave at an awards show that resulted in the end of a friendship.

While interviewing each other for People, Witherspoon asked her “You're Cordially Invited” co-star Will Ferrell if he’s ever given a speech he’s regretted.

Ferrell said he didn't think so, but the Oscar winner clearly had a story to share. Witherspoon explained that years ago while introducing a “very serious, proper actress” at a British event, she accidentally roasted her, which led to a falling out.

“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress, and she asked me to give her an award, but I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast," Witherspoon said. "So I got up, and I roasted her.”

“But that was not the tone,” Ferrell clarified.

“No, the tone was British, elegant, classy, and I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’” she recalled with a laugh. “I’m still embarrassed about it. We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore. I think she doesn’t like me anymore.”

Without naming the actor, Witherspoon added, “I thought it wasso funny, and it was just, I had the wrong audience... It was pretty bad. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”

As for the right audience, Witherspoon and Ferrell are making people laugh with their new comedy, “You're Cordially Invited, out now. In it, they play two people who discover that their family members' weddings were booked at the same venue on the same day. The movie also co-stars Nick Jonas as a “hot pastor,” they teased.

The actors began their joint interview by reminiscing about the first time they worked together on “Saturday Night Live” in 2001. Witherspoon shared that she’s a big fan of the comedian and that his film “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” is her family’s favorite, along with “Elf.”
