Sir Rod Stewart and his son have pleaded guilty to battery in an assault case following an altercation with a security guard at a hotel in Florida in 2019.

The rock singer and his son Sean Stewart entered guilty pleas to misdemeanour charges of simple battery, court records released on Friday show.

Sir Rod’s lawyer Guy Fronstin said this means neither will go to court, nor will they go to jail, pay a fine or go on probation,BBC News reports.

Sean Stewart, 41, allegedly pushed the security guard, and Rod Stewart, 74, then allegedly punched the guard in the ribs, the Palm Beach Police Department said in its report.

The episode was recorded by surveillance cameras, the report said.

The judge withheld adjudication, meaning the pair have not been formally convicted.

“No one was injured in the incident and a jury did not find Sir Rod Stewart guilty of the accusation,” his lawyer said in a statement.

“Instead, Sir Rod Stewart decided to enter a plea to avoid the inconvenience and unnecessary burden on the court and the public that a high profile proceeding would cause.”

The incident with the guard, Jessie Dixon, happened at the luxury Breakers Palm Beach Hotel on 31 December 2019.

According to the court file, Sir Rod told police that the family were denied access and Mr Dixon became combative with them, causing his family to become “agitated”.
